Anchorage Alaska Halibut Fishing

This page is being added for all those looking to experience the excellent halibut fishing in Alaska while in the Anchorage area. Although Anchorage is located on the shores of Cook Inlet, halibut fishing within the city is not available. You will need to head to one of the neighboring towns like Whittier or Seward to take in this truly Alaskan pastime.

Whittier can be accessed by driving south on the Seward highway about 50 miles or via the Alaska Railroad. Charters are available to take you out into the Gulf of Alaska where the halibut grow to enormous sizes. Both full and partial day halibut fishing trips are leaving the docks daily.

To get to Seward just keep following the Seward highway over Turnagain Pass and past Kenai Lake until you drop down the far side of the pass and reach Resurrection Bay. Seward is full of fishing charters and charter offices along the small boat harbor. Excellent fishing is what Seward is well known for, but this should not overshadow the natural beauty of this amazing area of Alaska.
